For the Final Fantasy XIII fans around the world, Square Enix is offering a preorder incentive for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Anyone who preorders the game will receive Cloud Strife’s “Soldier 1st Class” uniform and the legendary Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII. This DLC package will also include a Soldier’s Band, the victory fanfare and finishing animation from Final Fantasy VII as well. There are special abilities associated with the Cloud Strife DLC outfit that Square Enix will elaborate more on at a later date.

There are other preorder DLC items available. One is the Lightning’s Samurai Set, which includes the Shogun, Sohei Savior, and Flower of Battle items.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is the sequel to the 2010′s Final Fantasy XIII and 2012′s Final Fantasy XIII-2, which sold a combined 9.8 million units worldwide. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is the final installment of the Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy series and will end the trilogy. Lightning returns as the protagonist 500 years in the future and is tasked with saving the world. The gameplay is different from other Final Fantasy Games as Lightning will fly solo, traverse over most obstacles including climbing telephone poles and will have to ability to use stealth. Square Enix is taking the world of Final Fantasy to a new level with NPC’s moving and acting differently throughout the day. The streets will be sparsely populated during early morning hours and have heavy commutes of NPC’s heading home during the evening.

I’m hoping this isn’t the Final Fantasy VII remake everyone is hoping for, though I admit that putting Lightning in Cloud Strife’s “Soldier 1st Class” uniform is a good idea as a preorder bonus. At first glance, Lightning looked odd dressed as Cloud Strife but seeing her in action makes it look a lot better. Take a look at the video of Lightning in action wearing the “Soldier 1st Class” and wielding the Buster Sword in the video.

Lightning returns to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2014.
