As with most PlayStation 4 titles, Final Fantasy XIV is getting remote play. Naoki Yoshida shares ideas on use cases for this feature.

Though I’ve read Ari’s frustrations with getting online with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, I must admit as a long time fan of Final Fantasy XI that the game has piqued my interest. And with many of my other friends who played Final Fantasy XI proclaiming that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a Final Fantasy MMO done right, it’s becoming even more difficult to hold off on purchasing this massive game.

This morning, Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida talked to Famitsu about how the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn can be used for Remote Play. As Sony outlined prior, games that do not utilize the PlayStation Move or the new PlayStation Eye camera will be supported by the PS4 hardware for remote play, and being able to lie down on your bed or elsewhere in your home and still be able to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is an enticing proposition to buy the PS4 version… if you have a Vita that is.

As you might expect, you can basically do everything you’ve ever wanted in the PlayStation 4 version and more, but Yoshida shared some interesting use cases on how best to take advantage of this feature. While he didn’t elaborate in his interview, Remote Play players “can harvest or produce goods while roaming the in-game world.” Yoshida also mentioned that Remote Play can also be used for activities such as fishing or moments where you just want to relax. Partying, he suggests, is more of a bigger screen affair, so he’d expect players to do exactly that.

Needless to say, the option of being able to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in a somewhat portable fashion has got me a little excited about its prospects. The PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is scheduled for release some time next year, but be sure to subscribe to our e-mail digests and RSS feeds and catch Ari’s impressions and eventual review of the game as it stands right now!

Yeah, I could see myself using remote play to level up one of the non-combat professions.
