On The Horizon: Diablo III

Happy Monday, dear readers! Oh wait… it’s not Monday! It’s Tuesday! That means, regardless of whether you’re at work, at school, or whatnot, you have a short set of weekdays ahead of you! Huzzah! This week, we’ve got some incredible stuff coming your way. And, if you’ve Liked our Facebook fan page or browsed through the Gamer Horizon website during the weekend, you probably noticed that we relaunched our brand new layout complete with new features and functionality!

We received a ton of feedback from the community and our publisher and developer partners regarding our front page and we listened to every single one of them. It’s because of this that we all quickly decided to turn the site around and provide you with a much more thoughtful and meaningful front page. I’ll be the first to admit that while the previous iteration of the front page was cool, people just didn’t like those huge image murals and the fact that we introduced infinite scrolling. We then sat down and looked at our website again and tried to really nail down the essence of our website. I’ll definitely elaborate more on this in a feature later on, but needless to say, I think we did a pretty good job getting to this point. Because of this, some parts of the site might be borked, but we’re working our best to try and get these up to the current standards as soon as possible. Now, onto the games!

This week marks Blizzard’s first foray in console gaming in more than a decade! I had fond memories playing Rock and Roll Racing on the SNES (yep, that’s their game!) and some not so good memories trying to play Diablo on the PlayStation, but that’s all changing with the release of Diablo III for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 today! Now, I’ve been playing Diablo III for a while now and I’m only in Act II (there’s 4 Acts total from what I’m told), so the review will probably not go up this week. You probably already know what it is: it’s a multiplayer dungeon crawler, not so dissimilar to Gauntlet, that’s been a labor of love by Blizzard for a while now. Some people are even saying that, because there’s no Real Money Auction House (RMAH) that it’s the best version of the game to date. What do I think? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see when I come out with the review soon! If you’re picking the game up later today, here’s the cinematic intro to whet your appetite.

I’m not sure if Ted is picking this game up, but Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate is actually coming out today as well. It’s basically an improved version of Dead or Alive 5, with more characters, and I’m probably doing a disservice talking about it that way. I actually really liked Dead or Alive 5 and I’m quite happy that they’re releasing a full version of this, in addition to the chunked up version that they announced a while back. If you want to be hyped, here’s the latest trailer!

Rayman Legends should’ve come out many months ago, exclusively on the Wii U. Now, everyone will get the opportunity to enjoy this incredible platformer once again! Rayman’s been the baby of designer Michel Ancel for years now, and I’m glad that Rayman’s getting a second lease in life with brand spanking new animation, a fantastic soundtrack, and fun platforming gameplay. Just how different is it from Rayman Origins? Quite a bit, actually. In fact, this trailer highlights all of them. Check it!

I know a lot of my friends who are huge fans of the Total War series, so I’m 100% sure what I’ll be seeing them play since Total War: Rome II is coming out today. Developed by the folks over at The Creative Assembly, the series returns to Rome and offers many new and exciting features that are sure to delight long time fans of the series. Here’s a trailer for the game!

Last but certainly not least is the PSN release of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. It was actually released last week on August 28 on the PC, but PlayStation 3 owners will finally have the opportunity to play this critically acclaimed game. Heck, even Sean liked it so much that he reviewed it! In case you want to see this beautiful game in action again, here’s a trailer for you.

This week on the Gamer Horizon website, we’ll be treated with updates on Ari’s trek into the world of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Were his suspicions that the game seemed like fun back at E3 2013 correct? We’ll definitely find out soon! Also, Sean’s got a review of Splinter Cell: Blacklist coming out this week, so be sure to look for that. Also, Ted’s got a review of Rogue Legacy coming as well, fresh from the announcement that the game’s coming to PlayStation platforms in the future. We also have a brand new podcast episode coming out today, so set your portable audio devices at the ready! We’ve also got things coming from myself and Chris, so stay tuned for that.

We’ve got a ton of stuff coming, and whether you’re a fan on our Facebook fan page or a follower on Twitter, you’ll know that we’ll try to deliver more content with you with the new site than ever before. With that said, hope you all have a great short week and I’ll see you all around!

      1. As someone who just got DoA 5 Ultimate and did some research online, I can verify this. The only way to get trophies is to buy the $35 DoA 5 Ultimate Upgrade Pack, which just converts your F2P version into the full version.

Also, some of the DLC costumes from DoA 5 are now free, unlockable costumes in DoA 5 Ultimate. This does NOT apply to Core Fighters.

Even so, play Core Fighters because I can’t find too many ranked matches. Please please please please.

      2. Actually, I have no trouble finding Lobby Matches with LOTS of people. I can do Lobby matches ALL DAY. But Ranked Matches seems to be another story. I’m not alone, but I didn’t try yesterday. I went through the entire tutorial, and for the record, I learned things about Dead or Alive. I didn’t know. Lots of things. Do the tutorial, seriously.
