What’s Up Weekend for 9/6/2013 to 9/8/2013

Happy Friday, fellow gamers! It’s officially September here on What’s Up Weekend and we’re only a couple of months away from the release of Sony and Microsoft’s next generation platforms! While I’ve been saving up to get both (we don’t get consoles for free here), the rest of the Gamer Horizon crew have been bracing themselves for all the games coming this holiday season. We’ve also started talking about how we’re going to be doing our Game of the Year awards, which we’ll talk about when we’re ready.

Before I give the rest of the crew the stage, I wanted to let you all know that we’ll be recording episode 11 of the Gamer Horizon After Hours podcast tomorrow, and I figured that I would extend an invitation for you to submit any questions or comments to us to read on the podcast! If you want to do this, just post questions or comments on this post or reply to us on Twitter @gamerhorizon. Make them about anything: video games, music, board games, even “Go,”  should you wish, so Ari can be happy. We look forward to reading your questions and comments on the podcast!

And so, without any further ado, here’s this week’s What’s Up Weekend!

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Low Level Dungeon Preview
Ari’s going to put some time in for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn this weekend, and that’s fine by me!

Ari

Aside from the big Gamer Horizon meetup, most of my weekend will be spent shopping for furniture for the new apartment. Exciting, huh? I need to get some shelves… my old video game collection has been sitting in boxes for far too many years. The classic games need to see the light of day! If at any point over the weekend I actually find some spare time, I’ll play a bit more Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Disney Infinity
Sean was the last person who I’d ever think would have any interest in Disney Infinity, given his strong shooter affinity.

Sean

This weekend is relatively light for me. Saturday I’m hanging with everyone at Gamer Horizon (finally going to check out Disney Infinity – which I’ve been stoked to do on someone else’s dime) I plan on getting as much time on Payday 2 as I can and going to another one of my girlfriend’s burlesque shows.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds' End
Chris, surely you didn’t mean this, right?

Chris

I’m going to see At Worlds End, and then… who knows. It’s the weekend.

DotA2
I suggested to Ted to get one of those gamer tutors that DotA2 allegedly has. I’m wondering if we’ll talk about it tomorrow…

Ted

I purchased a decent number of games thanks to the Gamestop B2G1 sale. And I probably won’t play any of them. Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is getting its tires kicked, and I’m going to continue to try to love DotA 2. Or fake it. I think I’m going to start Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus on my Vita in order to finish it, and free up space on my memory card.

Grand Theft Auto V
Sean was baffled as to why the Editor-in-Chief of Gamer Horizon isn’t picking up Grand Theft Auto V. The answer is pretty obvious: I want both systems!

Alex

Diablo III has been way overdue in my review log, as well as Saints Row IV. I do kind of miss Saints Row IV quite a bit, but Diablo III needs to be finished! I’ve vowed to finish games before writing reviews, so I’m going through it with the help of my roommate and we’re having a lot of fun playing through it. I also have been spending some time with Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time when I have some free time, and I canceled my preorder for Puppeteer for budget reasons. As I mentioned already, I’m saving for both a PlayStation 4 and a Xbox One, so I’m not going to be able to pick up some of this holiday season’s games, like Grand Theft Auto V.

And there you have it! Another What’s Up Weekend is in the can and, with that, we are outta here! Don’t forget to post your questions and comments that we’ll be reading on the podcast in the comments section below, or Tweet to @gamerhorizon. That works too! Until next week, enjoy your weekend!

  1. I like video games, man! Remember I’m the ONLY person on the team that has Brothers even though its been out on PSN and Steam for 4 days.

  2. Are Trophies and Achievements “still” a gimmick or is it “now” part of gaming, and should Nintendo “really” add them on the Wii U and 3Ds like integrate it with MiiVerse?
