On The Horizon: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Good Monday, fellow gamers! It’s Alex again and I wanted to welcome you to yet another awesome edition of On The Horizon! This week continues the ensuing barrage of games coming to you, and this week’s content from us is going to be reflecting that. And if you’re lucky, you might even get a review or two this week! No promises though!

The biggest game this week is actually Madden 25, but if you’ve visited the site enough times, you know that the Gamer Horizon crew aren’t a bunch of sports loving gamers. Instead, we’re showcasing a game that’s perhaps more important than Madden 25, at least in our eyes, and something that you might want to check out…

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Skeptical? We’ve already heard Ari oogle over the game at E3 during our podcasts and even saw him write about what he thought of his experiences, but this week marks the months of waiting for the game to actually come out in an even better, repackaged form. Will it live up to Ari’s expectations? Find out in his review of the game in the next coming weeks! But, for the time being, expect him to update us on his progress. I’ll be sure to check those out as well… not that I’m going back into MMOs that is *clears throat*. In the meantime, here’s the latest trailer!

But if you’re unlike us, and you actually are looking forward to Madden 25, here’s the trailer for that too! Will you be double dipping on Madden 25 come November?

Memoria, from our friends at Daedalic Entertainment, is coming out on August 30th on Steam for PC and Mac! If you haven’t heard of Daedalic Entertainment, they’re an awesome game developer/publisher based in Germany that produces fantastic and engaging adventure games ranging from comedy to pure fantasy. In fact, they’re responsible for Deponia and Chaos in Deponia, both of which Ari reviewed for Gamer Horizon!

Memoria tells an epic centuries-old tale of a young princess’ journey to vanquish evil demons that threatened her land, only to be foiled under mysterious circumstances. Players take on the role of Geron, a young bird catcher whose fate becomes intertwined with this mystery and is forced, against his own will, to find out what really happened many centuries ago. Color me intrigued! Ari’s playing through Memoria right now, so we might see something from him about this game either this week or the next, but if you’re a huge adventure game fan (i.e. Telltale’s The Walking Dead, as an example), you’re probably going to like Memoria. Here’s a trailer for you to check out!

If you’re a huge Suda-51 fan, you’re going to love Killer is Dead. Some gamers consider it as the spiritual successor to Killer 7, and to be quite frank, I haven’t been into Grasshopper’s games since Lollipop Chainsaw, but I’m curious as to what separates Killer is Dead from all the other titles from this developer. Still, this is the first Suda-51 directed game since Liberation Maiden for Guild 01, and I’m glad to see him directing games again! Here’s a tantalizing trailer for you to view.

Spark Unlimited, the developers of Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary, have been working on Lost Planet 3 over the past few years and Capcom’s releasing the game this week. Ok, I probably shouldn’t have opened it up with their previous two titles, but did you also know that these guys are currently working on Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z? It’s true! Ted’s thinking the game’s probably going to tank, but what do you think? Here’s the trailer for the game.

Hatsune Miku has been around for a while now, and if you’re wondering who or what she is, I do urge you to come back to the site this week to check out Ted’s write up on her origins and the vocaloid phenomenon that spawned her. We’re doing this to bring to light that SEGA is quietly releasing Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F this week. We say quietly, because they’ve been really quiet about the game since we heard about it at E3 2013. Either way, here’s some gameplay from the demo by xtokashx of Youtube.

Lastly, the Painkiller series comes back this week with Painkiller: Hell and Damnation. The game is said to be both a remake and a sequel to the original Painkiller, but I personally don’t see how that is. If you’re not familiar with the series, you can think of it as a first person shooter franchise that is a blend of the demonic thematics of Doom mixed in with Serious Sam‘s gameplay, which makes it like a modern take on shooters of the 90’s. Sound cool? We’ve got a trailer for you!

This week on Gamer Horizon, we’re planning to have impressions of all of Disney Infinity‘s playsets, including Toy Box mode, Saints Row IV‘s co-op gameplay, and Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time. Sean’s planning to do some sort of write-up for Splinter Cell: Blacklist this week, Chris is writing up his review of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, Ted’s going to do a write-up on Rogue Legacy, and Ari’s gotten hooked on Dragon Fantasy Book I! We’re also recording a podcast where we talk about Sony’s press conference at Gamescom last week, and we’re hoping to get that out this week as well. Either way, it looks like this is going to be a packed week here at Gamer Horizon, so be sure to bookmark us and let us know what you’re going to be picking up this week in the comments. Until next time, see you all online!
