EVO 2013 Registration Open

EVO and shoryuken.com announced today that registration for EVO 2013 is now open. With the donation drive for breast cancer research concluded, Super Smash Brothers Melee has been added as the final game to the line-up. This year, the event will take place across two ballrooms, making it the largest EVO ever by several metrics. The Alpha Hall will have the more popular tournaments and exhibitors, and will also be the host of the Grand Finals on Sunday, July 14. The Beta Hall will have en expanded Bring Your Own Console section, allowing players to play whatever games they want in a public setting, along with the rest of the EVO tournaments, the Indie Games section, and other exhibitiors.

EVO Registration costs $50, plus $10 for each of the 8 games available for play, if you wish to register as a competitor. There are also two levels of Spectator passes for sale. $20 gets you access to everything the event has to offer, but you won’t be able to watch the Sunday finals live in the Alpha Hall; they will be available on live video in the Beta Hall. A pass that grants Sunday access to the Alpha Hall will cost $40.

EVO 2013 will likely break last year’s attendance and viewership records, so it’s great to see that they’ve expanded to two ballrooms. I will be attending, so if you see me, don’t be afraid to say hi! EVO 2013 takes place July 12-14. No word on whether there will be any Day Zero festivities on July 11, like in EVO 2012, when popular player Ari “fl0e” Weintraub was made to play a brand new version of ultra-difficult I Want To Be The Guy live on stage, while that game’s creator, also live in attendance, manipulated the game in real time to make it even more unfair.
