Guilty Gear Xrd Announced

There’s a new Guilty Gear and it looks amazing.

In Japan right now, there’s a fighting game event celebrating Arc Systems Works’ 25th Anniversary. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R, BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma, and Persona 4 Arena are being played in 64-man tournaments.

Just a short time ago, this trailer played at the event, announcing Guilty Gear Xrd, using a whole new engine based on the Unreal Engine.

Obviously, it’s early, only one background and two characters are being shown. But this looks absolutely gorgeous. I can’t tell if these sprites are actually polyg0ns. I think they are, but I’m just kind of lost in the beauty of this engine and these graphics. It also looks like there’s a neat camera shift effect when someone lands a dust launcher, and some other neat effects when someone goes for a super. The very fact that I can’t tell whether this is 2D or 3D intrigues me in a way I can’t explain. I am, right now, calling this the most beautiful fighting game made to date.

We have absolutely zero details on Guilty Gear Xrd at this time, such as release date or possible home console release, but I will be following this like a hawk.
