Resident Evil Revelations, originally released on Nintendo 3DS in January of 2012, is getting a home console release on May 21 in the US, and May 24 in Europe. It will be available as a physical disc for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii U, and available digitally for the Playstation 3 and PC. MSRP is set at $49.99.
This information doesn’t come as a big surprise, because Xbox 360 achievements for Resident Evil Revelations were leaked a few weeks ago, signalling an imminent re-release of the 3DS hit. However, the fact that the game is getting a physical release is surprising. I personally expected a lower-key, digital only release for this title. The price point, and the wide release on every major platform, demonstrates Capcom’s higher aim and hopes for this title. Also note that it is coming out for Wii U, giving that platform its first Resident Evil title. How the game will utilize the Wii U Gamepad’s second screen is unknown, but I would be surprised if it didn’t ape the 3DS’s setup, with weapon switching available at the touch of a button, and a map always present. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wii U Gamepad used in a similar fashion to ZombiU’s scanner, as Resident Evil Revelations also has a scanning tool.
While Resident Evil Revelations‘ campaign and Raid Mode make a return, the graphics have had a dramatic overhaul, with detail being paid to every aspect of the game’s engine, as you can see from the screenshots. Other new features include new gun customization pieces, a harder difficulty level, a new enemy type, new weapons to use in Raid Mode, and old fan-favorite Hunk as a playable Raid Mode character.
