Last night at the weekly Salty Cupcakes stream from Frootsii in Woodland Hills, it was announced that there are new stretch goals for Skullgirls at the $250,000, $350,000, and $450,000 funding levels.
As a longtime fan of Skullgirls, both the game and its community, I have to admit this was about the last thing I have expected. These new stretch goals will be new voice packs for characters, and they will be free DLC.
The $250,000 threshold has already been crossed, so we’re getting our first voice pack for Skullgirls: Republican Double. I can only point you to the video below, which is the origin of Republican Double, who will be voiced by Kaiji Tang, who was Kenshiro in Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage.
At $350,000, we will get Robo-Fortune, which will be a robot voice for Ms. Fortune. Mike Z also says that he would like to do a new, robotic color palette for Ms. Fortune, should that goal be reached. Robo-Fortune was introduced in a Twitch.tv stream here. Robo-Fortune will be voiced by Kimlinh Tran, who did the original voice for Ms. Fortune.
At $450,000, Skullgirls will be graced by Salty Sailor Parasoul, which is apparently a version of Parasoul that swears like… a sailor. Erin Fitzgerald will return as Parasoul’s vulgar voice should this goal be reached. No word on whether the curses will be bleeped out to maintain the game’s ‘T’ rating.
Other voice packs have been talked about/teased/rumored if the donations continue to climb. There has been talk of Valley Girl Painwheel (aka Derpwheel) being added as a voice pack, as well as Skullgirls lead designer Mike Zaimont stepping up to the microphone to record a Real Soviet Announcer. Neither of these is confirmed.
