Disney Interactive delayed the release of Disney Infinity to August 18 in North America, and August 20 in most other regions. The UK will receive Disney Infinity on August 23.
The game was delayed, according to Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants, to give the game more time to be polished. He also cited the chance to “capitalize on the critical fall retail season.”
Disney Infinity will utilize physical action figures, ala Skylanders, to allow players to bring characters from popular Disney franchises to life. In addition, the game’s unique Toy Box mode allows players to mix and match characters and settings, and even make their own rules as to how to play the game. These creations can then be shared with friends.
So far, playsets based on Cars, Monsters University, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Incredibles have been revealed. The starter pack will be priced at $74.99, and individual playsets will cost $34.99.
Disney Infinity will release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PC, and mobile devices.
