Ratchet & Clank Movie In 2015

For years Ratchet & Clank fans have been asking Insomniac Games “When Are you going to make a Ratchet & Clank movie?” Today, Insomniac has answered that question with the announcement of a Ratchet & Clank movie that will hit theaters by 2015. With series writer T.J. Fixman penning the script and voice actors James A. Taylor (Ratchet), David Kaye (Clank) and Jim Ward (Captain Qwark) reprising their roles, production is in full swing. The movie is being worked on by two veteran animation studios, Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. Rainmaker Entertainment is a Canadian based animation studio whose works include the animated T.V. series Reboot, Transformers: Beast Wars and Escape From Planet Earth. Blockade Entertainment creates trailers and commercials for the video games industry. Along with the production of the Ratchet & Clack movie, Blockade is in the process of creating a CG animated movie of Heavenly Sword.

Insomniac will “play a hands-on role with the film’s production, screenplay, character development and animation consulting,” said James Stevenson, community lead for Insomniac. “We’ve wanted to do a movie for a long time,” added Stevenson. “Ratchet & Clank’s action, humor and galaxy-spanning adventures have really been the basis for a fantastic game series, and we think it’d translate perfectly to the big screen.”

To keep production on schedule and make sure that the Ratchet & Clank movie assets match the video games, both “animation studios are using Insomniac’s game assets as reference material in order to speed up the pre-production phase.”

To celebrate the films announcement, Sony and Insomniac will be offering a sale on all Ratchet & Clank games during the week of April 30.

The film will tell the origin story of the wrench toting adventure seeking lombax Ratchet and his pint sized robotic counterpart Clank. The movie will remain faithful to the source material while introducing the dynamic duo to a whole new audience who are unfamiliar with the games. Ratchet & Clank is one of my favorite video game franchises and I’m excited to finally hear of a movie in development. I have owned and played all the games and place Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time on my top 10 list of best games ever.
