From 2K and 2K Marin, the makers of Bioshock 2 comes the latest game in the XCOM franchise, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. The year is 1962, JFK is President and the Cold War is in full swing. Communism has the nation gripped in fear of a nuclear strike. Unfortunately, that’s not the only threat to the United States and the world.
A top secret government agency begins to investigate a series of mysterious attacks. The agency, known as The Bureau, determines these attacks are of an unknown alien origin. In The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, players will assume the role of Special Agent William Carter in this third person tactical shooter. As Carter, players will take charge of a squad, making tactical decisions that may lead to victory, or the death of a team member. It’s up to Carter to prevent the alien menace from achieving their objective and also cover up the enemies’ existence.
“We’re thrilled about 2K Marin’s refined vision for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The game has evolved through a creative and iterative development process, and the result is a narrative-driven experience that is smart, engaging, and challenges players to think tactically.”
“The Bureau tells the story of XCOM’s mysterious beginnings,” said Morgan Gray, creative director at 2K Marin. “We’re expanding the universe with a declassified tale of government conspiracy and heroic cover-ups told through third-person tactical gameplay.”
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified releases on August 20 in North America and August 23 internationally, with a suggested MSRP in the US of $59.99. 2K is offering a pre-order bonus called the Codebreakers side-mission. Set as an addition to the campaign, Special Agent Carter is sent to investigate why a communications facility responsible for intercepting and interpreting enemy transmissions has gone dark. He has to make contact with the facility personally, and determine what happened.
