PlayStation Plus Update for 5/7/13: Sleeping Dogs

PlayStation Plus users are getting arguably the biggest free game since the Instant Game Collection initiative started last June. Sleeping Dogs by Square Enix, an open-world crime fighting adventure, is going to be free tomorrow, May 7 on PlayStation 3. North American PlayStation Plus users have looked on in jealousy as their European brethren have already received this title at no charge a few months ago.

Any discounts coming tomorrow have yet to be revealed, but we already know the slate of titles coming in the rest of May. There’s only 4 Tuesdays this month, so the other three games for PlayStation Plus, in no particular order:

  • The Pinball Arcade (Cross Buy)
  • Knytt Underground (Cross Buy)
  • BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend (for Vita)

I’m actually really excited for this month. The Pinball Arcade is a great title, that I felt was held back by the fact that it has a $10 buy-in, so to speak, although it comes with 4 pinball tables. Zen Pinball 2, on the other hand, is free, but doesn’t come with any tables, allowing the user to purchase what he or she wants. The Pinball Arcade does have a mighty array of additional tables for sale, with twenty at the time of this article, and two more coming very soon. The game and its DLC are Cross-Buy for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

Knytt Underground was on sale a few months ago, and it looked interesting, but I couldn’t tell you why I didn’t buy. This adventure title is also Cross-Buy for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

Some people complain about the high number of fighting games made free through PlayStation Plus, but I am happy to see BlazBlue for Vita coming, as it is a title I have had my eye on for a while. This is the latest version of BlazBlue, and contains the complete character roster, without the need to add any as DLC. Keep in mind this title takes 3.3 GB of space, so you might want a larger memory card for your Vita if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

Demon’s Souls will be leaving PlayStation Plus tomorrow, and the big PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale sale will be ending.
