PlayStation Plus Update for 7/2 – Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3, rumored to be free on PlayStation Plus this month… well, it is. EA is following a strategy other companies have followed with PlayStation Plus, when they have a new game in a franchise coming out, which would be to release the previous game in the franchise for free. Battlefield 3 is a 11.6 GB download, so you’ll need 23.2 GB free to install it. None of the vast amounts of DLC for the title are on sale yet, but maybe they will be next week. Stay tuned.

Other games coming to PlayStation Plus this month are Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD and Jet Set Radio on PlayStation 3, with the Vita receiving Dokuro and Metal Slug XX.

There’s also yet another sale starting on PlayStation Plus. This whole week, the following games will be on sale. The regular sale price will be listed first, followed by the PlayStation Plus price:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II – 41.99 – 37.79
  • The Amazing Spider Man – 29.99 – 20.99
  • Batman Arkham Asylum – 9.99 – 5.00
  • The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest – 4.99 – 2.50
  • Mortal Kombat (PS3)- 9.99 – 5.00
  • Mortal Kombat (PS Vita)- 9.99 – 5.00
  • Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands – 7.99 – 4.00
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: the Game – 3.99 – 2.99
  • Shadow of the Colossus – 9.99 – 5.00
  • Ratchet & Clank Collection – 14.99 – 7.50

This might be a controversial statement, but Sony’s had so many sales with PlayStation Plus, it’s starting to look like Steam. Many of these prices are at the impulse buy level, and the PlayStation Plus price on Black Ops II is actually respectable. There will be another set of games going on sale next week.
