Good morning and welcome to a fantabulously early What’s Up Weekend, where we recap what the crew’s going to be doing during their time off and see what you’re doing over the weekend! This weekend is Independence Day weekend, so most of us are going to be off of our full time jobs and basking in the warm glow of our HD TVs as we catch up on some serious game time. It’s also traditionally one of the biggest movie weekends of the year, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if I saw that some of the crew here will be watching some movies over the weekend.
With that said, I thought it’d be appropriate to list what movies are out for this long weekend, along with their Rotten Tomatoes rating at the time of this writing while we’re at it:
- The Lone Ranger – 25%
- Despicable Me 2 – 75%
- Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain – 64%
- The Way, Way Back – 86%
- The Look of Love – 68%
- Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me – 93%
- Hammer of the Gods – No rating
- Just Like a Woman – No rating
As far as gaming, I feel that this is a week off that the video game industry’s practically telling us to just chill out, relax, and catch up on what’s happening with our games. Without any further ado, here’s what the crew’s going to be up to this July 4th weekend!

Sean
I don’t have time off again until Saturday but I imagine my weekend will consist of Last of Us multiplayer, and some Battlefield 3. I also bought Crysis and Dragon Age Origins. Somewhere in there I will be seeing World War Z with my girlfriend.

Ari
A brief moment of daily Animal Crossing: New Leaf followed by Shin Megami Tensei IV for the rest of the day. Long game is long.

Ted
I’m going to try to convince the rest of Gamer Horizon to squad up with me in Battlefield 3 on PS3, thanks to PlayStation Plus. Whether we accomplish this remains to be seen, but if we do, I hope we can record it. “Okay, Chris, ease off the throttle. Drop us off here. Chris, give it some gas, you’re dropping too fast! Chris, we- ah well.”

Chris
I’m down for some Battlefield 3 as long as I get to drive and fly everything. Then it’s The Walking Dead: 400 Days and when it’s time to eat, I’m going to Bar-B-Q something.

Alex
Whoa boy, what CAN’T I do? My 3DS’ analog nub is borked, so I gotta take a look and see how I can fix it myself. I saw a Youtube video showing how easy the process is, so I’m going to look into that. In the meantime, I will continue to struggle with it and play through Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Tonight, I plan on having a date night with the roommie and see World War Z since The Lone Ranger’s got some terrible reviews. I also intend to finally finish The Walking Dead, unlike Ted or Ari who are busy with their own things this weekend. Otherwise, I also intend to finish The Last of Us, work on the new version of the Gamer Horizon website, and also maybe slip in some time at Disneyland since, yknow, I have an annual pass and all.
What will YOU be doing this weekend? Sound off on the comments below and have a fantastic long weekend!
