Former devs from Blizzard Entertainment, Sony Online Entertainment and Relic Entertainment have banded together to for a party and raid Molten Core. Actually they formed a party and started a studio called Molten Games. This new AAA development house received a multi-million dollar investment from the Korean based developer NCSoft. Molten has begun working on an unnamed title and is currently looking to hireĀ a technical director, VFX, UI and concept artists. The San Diego based studio Molten will specialize in online gaming and publishing.
“Molten Games has assembled a wildly talented and experienced team, and we absolutely believe they will create and run an amazing new game experience,” said NCSoft CEO Taek Jin Kim in a press statement. “They’re setting the bar high for themselves, with a strong desire to shake up the online gaming space by creating something new and unique in our industry.”
“We created Molten Games in order to truly have control over our game development and IP, and we’re going to create something epic,” said Molten Games CEO and co-founder of Jungwon Hahn. “Our team understands not only the creation of online games, but the ongoing management of them, better than anyone else in the industry. As we continue to build our team and work on our initial product, gameplay and player experience is going to come first with every decision.”
I haven’t heard anything from NCSoft in a long time–well, other than publishing Guild Wars 2, Lineage 2, Aion, Wildstar and Blade & Soul. The last thing big I heard, they were fending off a lawsuit from some group claiming they had a patent on the internet and online games. Regardless, it’s nice to see new development studios open and create new games and gaming experiences. Molten promises to release more information on the project they are working on in the future. It will be interesting to see what former Blizzard, Sony Online and Relic devs come up with.
