Call of Duty: Ghosts to have dedicated servers on Xbox One

Call of Duty fans can rejoice as it has now been confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ multiplayer will use dedicated servers via Microsoft’s cloud service.

From Xbox Wire:

With new co-op mode, exclusive multiplayer features and downloadable content, “Call of Duty: Ghosts” will be best on Xbox One: The award-winning team from Infinity Ward unveiled a new co-op mode, “Blitz,” for “Call of Duty: Ghosts.” Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward, took to the stage at the Xbox Showcase to announce “Call of Duty: Ghosts” on Xbox One will use Xbox Live Cloud hosting to provide dedicated servers for multiplayer matches, ensuring the best multiplayer experience will be on Xbox One.

This has been a complaint from both fans and detractors for quite some time and a major get for Xbox One as far as Call of Duty fans are concerned. In the past, match hosting was done on a peer to peer basis, giving way to host advantages, dropped games (if the host rage quit and turned off their console), and plenty of times just waiting for hosts to migrate (if they left the game or dropped their connection). With dedicated servers, these annoyances will be a thing of a not-so-fondly remembered relic of the past. Hopefully Sony has something planned to match this because as it stands, PlayStation 4 is already getting the short shrift on DLC and Microsoft and Activision announced a Call of Duty: Ghosts bundle for Europe that “will include special bonus content, exclusive to Xbox One.”
