Hey all,
In March 2013, I was given a great opportunity to join an up and coming video game website with a small team, but incredibly focused on providing excellent content about video games and with ambition to grow the site and become a presence in this already crowded space. That site is the one you are reading right now, Gamer Horizon.
My first piece was an editorial about my favourite game of 2013, Tomb Raider. Within the first 2 months there we were accepted to E3 – which has been a dream of mine since its first show way back in 1995. This allowed me to go hands on with Wolfenstein: The New Order (I told you it looked good), meet and interview MachineGames’ creative and game director Jens Matthies, and see a ton of great games before most of the world. Games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and of course, Titanfall. It was a fantastic experience and showed me that I was doing the right thing in choosing to pursue games media as my path.
And that was just the beginning.
Over the past 15 months, I have learned so much about this business, and made some great friends and have really come into my own in terms of my writing. If someone would have told me that within a year of starting down this path I would be receiving a review copy of Grand Theft Auto V and Payday 2 and within 18 months, be receiving Wolfenstein: The New Order for review, I would have said they were lying. But here I am and I owe that all to the opportunities afforded me by Gamer Horizon.
And I do it all for you guys. The readers. The community. I love talking and writing about video games but without an audience such as yourselves, I would just be a crazy person wasting a lot of time! But I’m not and I have all of you to thank for that!
Alas, like all good things, they come to an end and today marks my last day at the site. Why am I leaving? In all honesty, and I’m sure the rest of the guys can attest to this, we have both agreed that it was time for me to move on. I have a different idea of what and how I want my career to be and that doesn’t line up with where Gamer Horizon is going.
Rest assured, you will be hearing from me very soon so follow me on twitter @N2NOther or hit me up on Xbox Live and PSN (N2NOther for both) and you’ll be the 4th people to know – first would be the place that offered me the position, second would be me, third would be my girlfriend and then all of you fine folks.
And for anyone interested in Sean and Ted’s Wrestling Podcast, we are working out how to keep bringing you that show monthly!
I’m just getting started.
See you all very soon,
Sean Mesler
