Anthony’s first exposure to video games happened in the mid-1980s, when he repeatedly went to the arcade daily and attempted to finish the local Space Ace arcade machine. It would be a few years later that Anthony would then received his first video game console: the Nintendo Entertainment System. He would spent many hours playing games like Super Mario Bros., exploring the land of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda, and shooting plenty of aliens in Contra. But it wasn’t until Ninja Gaiden that Anthony realized that video games can also tell compelling and engaging stories.

Years would pass him by and Anthony’s love for video games would become even stronger, thanks to the Sony PlayStation. This is the platform that Anthony would play many of the games that would eventually become his favorites: Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Tales of Destiny, and Star Ocean. It would also be the platform that would play host to his favorite game of all time, Xenogears. Like Ninja Gaiden before it, Xenogears showed Anthony that video games could be much more than its namesake: they could be experiences.

Anthony is married and has a son who has inherited his love for video games. Many of Anthony’s friends think that, while he may be seen by outsiders as abrasive and a bit blunt, he’s an eccentric and friendly fellow. He is known for his loyal following on Youtube, going by his popular handle MagusX1. He is currently studying to be a major in English literature, which was inspired by his initial experience with podcasting. While not gaming, Anthony collects comic books, works out, plays table top games, plays football, watches movies, and TV.

When asked why he’s always blunt, he replies, “I’d rather say something that is rue than sugar coat it. Sugar coating is actually a poison, ’cause it will hurt somebody far worse and longer than just saying the truth. The truth can sting, but a lie can poison.”

First video game you ever played

It would be good ol’ Space Ace. I still love that game even though it was just purely comprised of quick time events.

First video game you ever finished

Like so many other gamers, it would have to be Super Mario Bros. Yes, I made it to the castle with the actual Princess.

First video game system you ever purchased with your own money

That would be my PlayStation. I sold my 3DO in order to get that sucker and I am glad I did.
