Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, an update to Dead or Alive 5 featuring some new characters and features, is coming out September 3. Quite honestly, as an owner of the game, I was upset. A whole new disc? For $60? I just got this! Now some news has come out that has not only quelled my anger, but made me legitimately excited for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate.
On September 3, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be released in 2 versions. There will be a standard retail release for $60, sure, but it will also be released on the PlayStation 3 in a free to play model (Release of the free to play version on the Xbox 360 is contigent on Microsoft’s approval), and it will be entitled Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Core Fighters. Kasumi, Ayane, Hayabusa, and Hayate will be available for free, and you can buy additional characters for $4 each. All single player modes are available for free except for Story Mode, which can be purchased for $15. Tecmo Koei plans to offer some paid characters for free for a limited time so people can try then out and decide whether or not to buy them.
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Core Fighters will support full online play with the retail version, and save files from the original Dead or Alive 5 will carry over.

What an interesting concept. I’m not sure if I’m going to buy it this way, but it’s great that you’ve got options now.

Good for gamers who is thinking if the game is good or not, now they can try it for free, then if they like it, they can either buy part of the game, or get the complete version for $60.

If anyone doesn’t like the F2P version, they can go buy the retail release.
