Hey folks! Welcome to another edition of What’s Up Weekend, the weekly article where we sound off on what we’re going to be doing this weekend and more! Speaking for myself, I’ve been very sick the past couple of days, but I’ve had a couple of games to tide be over while I recuperate. The rest of the crew have been hard at work checking out new and old games, catching up on some of their backlogs, and you’d probably be surprised as to what they’re planning on playing this weekend. So here it is, without any delay, our What’s Up Weekend for the last weekend of June 2013!

I’m actually frightened by the number of hours I’ve spent in a couple short weeks playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I used to eat breakfast. Now I just play an hour or two of Animal Crossing before I even get out of bed in the morning. And the game is continuing its steady pace of unlocking new content every couple of days. It’s an unbelievable addiction. Let’s just assume that Animal Crossing will be part of my What’s Up Weekend every week for the foreseeable future. This weekend I plan on playing a ton of Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers. I already played through the Sealed campaign, and while it was fun, I discovered that I can’t delete my sealed save file to start a new game with new booster packs, and that the only way to play it again is to pay $2 for an additional save slot. This has severely soured my experience since the game only provides two save files and I am shocked that they can’t be deleted and reused. It feels like a total bait and switch. “Here is a brand new headlining game mode. We’ll sell it to you as a part of our game for $10, but if you want to play it more than twice, you’ll have to pay us more money.” I’ll be contacting the developers about that one. We’ll see what comes of it. Have a great weekend everyone!

This weekend I’m home alone with the dogs so I’ll be finally playing The Last of Us on Survivor mode, hopefully jumping into some Factions Multiplayer and starting up Remember Me. I don’t plan on moving from the couch much and certainly not on going outside.

Chris
I will be playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I’m at the enemy base and it’s getting tougher to finish missions with my entire team alive. I also need to play more of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The game is fun and I want to continue playing as soon as possible.

It’s become a running joke among my friends and co-workers that I haven’t started The Last Of Us yet. I don’t know why I can’t get started, maybe the mood’s not right? With Hotline Miami out of the way, I think this weekend is going to be it. I’m also going to go to the Orange County Pignic, a gathering for guinea pigs and their owners. Actually very excited for this.

Seeing as how I was bedridden for the past couple of days, I went to check out what was new on the iOS App Store as well as the Vita and 3DS. To my surprise, I saw that Level-5’s long awaited Layton Bros: Mystery Room game had just been released on iOS, so I took it upon myself to get it and purchase all the other chapters. Granted, the game hand holds you a lot, but the game gets increasingly difficult over time. I also picked up Solitaire Blitz, which is a Popcap game no one seems to know about. I foresee that these two games will be occupying my time over the weekend, unless The Last of Us and Hotline Miami pry me away from my mobile gaming addiction.
So there you have it folks! Another week of Gamer Horizon shenanigans is in the can. Sound off on what you think you’ll be doing this weekend in the comments below… and have a fantastic weekend, you guys!
