What’s Up Weekend from 11/8/2013 to 11/10/2013

Welcome back to another What’s Up Weekend. As always we’ll be talking about our plans for the weekend, in and outside of the world of gaming. Things have been getting exciting with the PlayStation 4 less than a week away! Can you believe the next generation is almost upon us?

Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer
Sean’s weekend will look something like this.

Sean

I have a pervading sense of dread this week. I’m really close to having all of the money for my PlayStation 4, but with recent events like a girlfriend’s birthday and our dog Zoe’s passing, and a paid gig falling through, money has been tight. I’m hoping I can figure something out by Monday when I plan to have all of my money in the bank to cover the cost. Right now I’m a measly $66 dollars shy of what I need, so fingers crossed.

My plan is to get Call of Duty: Ghosts for PS4 so I can play through the single player with next gen graphics and get the best possible experience on consoles for my review of the game. With that said, I couldn’t let 2 weeks go by without getting my COD fix so I opted to rent the 360 version in the meantime. So far I’m digging it, but these new map are going to take some time to get used to, so that’s my plan for the weekend. Play a LOT of Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Sorry, babe, but Duty Calls.

With Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness and The Guided Fate Paradox behind him, Ari found time to play through Goodbye Deponia and will be reviewing it this weekend.

With the next generation only a week away, I am definitely not as excited as I should be. I’ve got my PlayStation 4 pre-ordered, but I didn’t order a single game for it because there really wasn’t anything in the launch lineup that I deemed essential. Guess I’ll be playing a lot of Resogun. Honestly, the first PlayStation 4 game I’m really looking forward to is Infamous: Second Son, but that won’t be released ’til February, so this weekend, I’m really not sure what to look forward to in the next generation, at least in the short term.

Fortunately, I still have plenty of games in the current generation to keep me busy. I just finished playing Goodbye Deponia, the final part of the Deponia series of point and click adventures by Daedalic Entertainment, so this weekend I’ll be preparing a review of that for next week. I can tell you right now that it is without a doubt the best game in the trilogy, and with a collection of Daedalic games–including Deponia–being offered in the Humble Weekly Sale, it’s a perfect time to start playing if you’re into the genre.

Aside from that, I’ll be hanging out with some friends playing Rock Band. Apparently that’s still a thing. Oh… and Cookie Clicker has somehow taken over my computer. Thanks, Ted…

Thor: The Dark World
Thor Vs. Gandalf would be an awesome match for Salty Bet, and that happens to be what Chris’ weekend is all about.

Chris

This weekend, I’m watching Thor: The Dark World with Alex and another friend, Christian, at the ArcLight theaters in Sherman Oaks. We got tickets for Friday evening and I can’t wait to see this movie. We’ll be watching the movie in 3D and Dolby Atmos which is OK but I could care less about that. The movie is what’s important to me, not that whole 3D craze that every movie wants to be.

I just bought The Hobbit, the extended Blu-Ray edition from Best Buy so I’ll be watching that this weekend also. I avoided watching the movie again on DVD and Blu-Ray because I wanted the extended edition. I never read the books so I have to wait until all the movies come out to know what happens. I previously purchased The Lord of the Rings Blu-Ray extended edition when it came out and I really want The Hobbit movies as well.

PlayStation 4 - Happy Birthday, Ted
Happy 30th birthday, Ted! You’re old like the rest of us now. Enjoy this hastily photoshopped photo of a PlayStation 4.

Ted

My birthday is on Tuesday and I’m turning 30. I’m going to visit my parents this weekend, and then I’ll be seeing the Gamer Horizon crew next weekend. This sort of lines up with the PlayStation 4, so I imagine that essentially time and fate are throwing me a birthday party that I am paying for myself. Eh, works for me.

This is pretty much Alex’s life right now.

Alex

My absence from Gamer Horizon isn’t because of the PlayStation 4 launch, but because many things are piling up in my personal life, and that’s been extremely difficult to deal with. Sorry to kill the What’s Up Weekend with a somber note, but sometimes when life happens even video games take a backseat. Either way, I trust that the rest of the crew can pick up my slack. That said, are you looking to contribute? Ping us at staff@gamerhorizon.com for details. 🙂

It’s a secret to everyone.

So what games from the current generation do you want to finish before you pick up your next gen consoles? Let us know what you’ll be playing this weekend in the comments below! Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. “So what games from the current generation do you want to finish before you pick up your next gen consoles?”

Right now, Alan Wake, Neptunia 1, Phantasy Stars Portable2 and many more. Now it be harder since I finally decided to get a Wii U.

Which, probably going to see what the console can do, and Pokemon X.
