RollerCoaster Tycoon World announced for PC, early 2015

When RollerCoaster Tycoon was released on mobile phones, a few of us here on the site spelled doom for the PC version of the game. With no details, except the “promise” of no micro-transactions, we felt that the company was putting the franchise to pasture. That is, until today’s announcement came in.

RollerCoaster Tycoon World is a full installment of the popular franchise for the PC. It’s being developed by Pipeworks, known for Zumba Fitness and The Deadliest Warrior series of games, and will be coming out in early 2015. Unlike previous iterations of the game, players will be able to team up with up to four players to manage one park.

“Many of the new features in RollerCoaster Tycoon World were not possible a few years ago, but we have taken advantage of technological improvements to offer a wildly fun gaming experience that stays true to the storied franchise,” said Atari CEO Fred Chesnais in a press release accompanying the trailer for the game.

In addition to four player co-op, players can visit other players’ parks and blueprints for rollercoasters can be shared online. Pipeworks’ goal is to make this game the most connected Tycoon game ever built.

And perhaps the most important bit of this press release is that it will be a full PC experience and that it will not contain any micro-transactions whatsoever, so all the content is pretty much accessible during its release. That is, until the game comes out with expansions.

Well Ari, I think we found our newest addiction.
