The botanical tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies makes its comeback to the gaming scene with Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About time. PopCap announced the game with a new trailer and launch date of July 18 exclusively for iOS devices. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time will be a free to play title. Players can purchase optional upgrades from their neighborly shopkeeper Crazy Dave but the majority of the game will be free to play. PopCap explains that players will still have the ability to kill all zombies throughout every level of the game without spending any money.
“We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game,” said senior producer Allen Murray in a press release announcing the release date. “We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch.”
Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time trailer shows Crazy Dave taking off in his custom winnebago time machine to help players thwart the zombie invasion in levels set in the past and future. The game will feature touchscreen power-ups allowing players to specifically target certain zombies along with setting up the standard pea shooter and giant squash defenses.
It’s unfortunate that Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time is launching exclusively for iOS devices. Personally, I think PopCap might be better off charging $10 or $20 and releasing on all platforms instead of just the one. Regardless, the numerous fans who don’t have iOS devices will just have to wait patiently for PopCap to release the game on other platforms, whenever that’s going to be. If, on July 18, anyone really wants to play this game, they can always go to their local Apple store to check it… that’s if they have the game on demo.

Thanks for the Android support! I’ll put you next to the copy of the Injustice card game I don’t own.
Gah. Will wait for the inevitable PC version.
Mobile exclusive games seem to be a fad. The newest Halo: Spartan Wars game is Windows exclusive. I guess people think we all carry three phones or something lol
