Thomas Was Alone creator finds Volume beyond rectangles

Volume is the new game from Mike Bithell, the creator of Thomas Was Alone. From the trailer alone, we can see that it’s a stealth romp reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid, with visible sight indicators of the enemy sentries. One of the other big features of Volume is the ability to create your own levels and share them with others. Level creation looks very simple, using a grid-based system to place walls, traps, sentries, and other level elements.

I have to admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Thomas Was Alone. I found it way too easy and too reliant on certain gimmicks to solve each level. I felt like I wasn’t solving the levels correctly, even though I likely was. That being said, I am really excited for this. I’m not the biggest fan of stealth, but I like the way Metal Gear Solid did it. This seems to echo that particular brand of stealth, so I am actually looking forward to hearing more.

Volume is set for a 2014 release. In September, information as to what platforms it will come out on will be revealed at the Eurogamer Expo. If you ask me, it seems like a lock for both PC and PlayStation platforms.
